Can a man be in love with two women at the same
time? Cherish them both, respect them both, and keep them apart in different
worlds that never collide? And survive?
At forty-five, Oliver has a successful career and a good life, in a word,
he’s happy with his lovely college professor wife Nancy. Away from the sanctuary
of married life, there is Nona, Oliver’s attractive twenty something co-worker.
What starts like fun between them, friends enjoying at-work cheap flirting,
develops furiously in strange infatuation and Oliver finds himself in the
middle of impossible split feelings. Nona, fragile under her butch demeanor,
falls for the guy but rejects the married man. The confirmation, even if
halved, makes Oliver happier. That until Nona acknowledges her alternative
lifestyle in a desperate attempt at closure, Nancy feels the gap between
spouses is widening, and both of them might as well give him hell. Oliver
has to move back, or move on, to sanity.
HAPPY HAPPIER HELL is a tragicomedy written by Tudor Petrut. Strong characters
and intense dialogue make the story bizarre and emotional. Through the threesome,
and its riddles, Petrut questions our interactions in the modern world, and
affection as we know it.
Formally trained director and a film star in his native country of Romania,
Petrut, now living in California, has several screenplays on the market.
Using his theatrical background, he creates spirited characters building,
and suffering, credible relationships. HAPPY HAPPER HELL is a notable tale
fit for a low-budget venture, actor showcase, or directorial experiment.
